Would you please correct the mistakes in my sentence? Do you say "rushed out" or "outside"? I have used BrE "packet"

The truck loaded with biscuits crashed close to the school, causing tumult among the students who rushed out to help themselves with packets.

emsr2d2,
Excuse me for asking again. I am wondering why "tumult" is not right in the above sentence.

I would probably use "excitement" or "a frenzy" instead of "tumult", and I would say "help themselves to the packets".
