I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct.

The TV crew had to run for their lives when the bulls they were filming suddenly charged towards them.

It is grammatically correct. You could remove "towards" and the meaning would be the same. We can say that the bulls "charged them".

emsr2d2,

Thank you for your help.
I am wondering if I need "towards" in the sentence like this.

The angry demonstrators charged towards the police, which responded with teargas and batons.

In that sentence, I would keep "towards". It simply suggests direction. The demonstrators might not be charging with the express intention of running into/barging into/connecting with the police. They might simply be charging in their general direction. In your first example, I got the impression that the bulls were specifically aiming for the film crew.

If the demonstrators charged the police, they would attack them or try to push them back physically.
