[Grammar] The use of articles in the description of an unknown room

I'm writing a story which begins with a description of a room. I use quite a lot of articles in the description, and this is the part of English grammar I'm still struggling with. Please, can someone tell me which articles, definite or indefinite (or none), should be used and when? I will be writing more similar descriptions in the future and need to know the rule. I'm especially unsure about articles in the sentences below, as whatever articles I try to use, the sentences always sound wrong to me!

In A.'s room everything has its own place. A towel and a brush hang on the hook screwed on to a large wardrobe. A lamp and a maths textbook take up the opposite corners of a rectangular table. A teddy bear sits on the only chair in the room.

I used indefinite articles, as the reader doesn't know the room and the furnitures at the beginning of the story (except for 'the opposite' and 'the only', as the corners and the chair are more definite here). Is the text correct?

Usage looks OK. Just one minor point about "the hook". I think I would use "a hook" unless the hook was referred to previously or it will become important for some reason later in your story or perhaps for some other reason (maybe a mental picture) it's important to indicate that there is only one hook on the wardrobe. But having said all that, either "a" or "the" works for me, because, as my mother used to say, "a galloping horse wouldn't notice".
