Is this sentence OK?

The worst thing about being a computer engineer is that you have to keep up with the latest computer technology around the world. Otherwise, you will not able to improve your career prospects.

Your sentence is fine as it is. The only thing I would change is removing "around the world". It sounds redundant to me.

As a side comment, I agree with your sentence 100%.

In today's interconnected world, especially in technology, there is little geography, so you people just have to keep pace with innovation, rather than innovation from certain places- software is pretty universal. I wouldn't use it either, though it isn't wrong to use it.
