Hello, yesterday I was trying to find the appropriate word for expressing the following.

It is a world full of X.

I am looking for the X word.

What I want to express is that we live in a world which is full of false "beliefs" (in a broad sense).

For example I am Greek and I know that most foreigners believe that Greeks are hospitable persons. Other people believe that Scottish people are stingy.
For me these statements do not hold and probably they are

  • false beliefs (too general)
  • myths (not so appropriate)
  • legends (more for fairytale and more appropriate for one person-hero)
  • typicalities (I do not think this fits)

I am trying to express false beliefs of the masses (masses is a valid word meaning the crowds right?)

So how do you express that?

I would like to thank you in advance for your help.

Best Regards
Alex.

The two words that immediately come to my mind are 'misconceptions' and 'stereotypes'.

'It is a world full of misconceptions and stereotypes.'

Do these words express the point you are trying to make?
