1. This refutes the reading passage's claim that a link between Etruscans and and ancient Turks is proven by similar funerary methods.
2. This refutes the claim in the reading passage that a link between Etruscans and and ancient Turks is proven by similar funerary methods.

I asked on the other forum and someone has recommended me to use the second phrase rather than the first one. However, the first one is the one in my English textbook, so I wanted to ask a teacher whether which one is better to use.

Thank you in advance!

Both are grammatical, and they mean the same thing.

I also like the second version better. The phrase "the reading passage's claim" is a little too convoluted for my taste. When there's a possessive, putting an adjective in front of it creates a "speed bump" for the reader. So if there's an easy way to rephrase, I do it.

But both are fine.

It is another English site similar to this one. Should I provide the link?

Yes.

If you're not satisfied with answers you received in another forum, it will save a lot of our time if we can read them for ourselves.

It is not that I am not satisfied, I just wanted to be more clear asking a teacher here. Alright, here is the link :)
