I asked on the other forum and someone has recommended me to use the second phrase rather than the first one. However, the first one is the one in my English textbook, so I wanted to ask a teacher whether which one is better to use.

Both are grammatical, and they mean the same thing.

I also like the second version better. The phrase "the reading passage's claim" is a little too convoluted for my taste. When there's a possessive, putting an adjective in front of it creates a "speed bump" for the reader. So if there's an easy way to rephrase, I do it.

But both are fine.
