Thousand or thousands

When and how to use plural with thousand, and please explain the following two sentences. Thank you for your help!

There are a few thousand on the market now.
There are thens of thousands of people surrounding in the par

Generally we use the plural when we don't have a specific number:
There were ten thousand peopele there.
there were thousands of people there.
There were tens of thousands of people there.

Here, only the first is a specific number.
Few is no really sepcific but it behaves as if tit were. ;-)
