Hello all users!

Suppose a ship is to be built and two shipyards have been chosen to compete against each other for the bid to build the ship. I would like to ask you about the following sentence.

A total of two subjects, namely, Shipyard X and Shipyard PUMA will be competing against each other for the bid.

What is your opinion?

Thank you.

You don't need "A total of" and "two subjects" is wrong. You can shorten the end to "will be bidding [against each other] [for the contract]".

Two companies/shipyards, Shipyard X and Shipyard PUMA, will be bidding for the contract.

They are not competing for the bid. Their bids are the mechanism by which they are competing for the contract to build the ship.
