Our spervisor wants to know___we anticipate the result will be and how we will
cope with it.

a)what
b)that
c)which
d)when

The
answer given is C.

However, Is A acceptable?

what means the thing that, so it is
...to know the thing [that we anticipate the result will be]
( =
we anticipate the result will be that)

Does it make sense?

Thanks!

You analyzed the use of "what" correctly. "Which" doesn't fit there unless (and this is a stretch) a previous sentence laid out some specific possible outcomes. In that case, it would mean "which of the listed possibilities".
