Hi,

One's applied for a job, in a series, and the guys are going to interview the family. This worries the person because he's sure his family are going to ruin everythin. What verb can be used here for his 'application'? Is the application going to be 'spolit', 'ruined', or something?

Thank you so much in advance.

In the spoken English of a TV show, the character would probably say something like, "My crazy family is going to...

  • wreck everything
  • blow my big chance
  • make a fool out of me"

If you were writing something about the episode, you might say he is worried his family will jeopardise his application or ruin his chances.

But these are far from the only possibilities.

They might "scupper his chances".

Basically, they might "sabotage" his application, unwittingly or not.
