Dear all,

In the passage below, does the second sentence mean "...whether we are likely to make the wrong prediction and respond inappropriately depends on the extent to which our judgements arise from ideas about national charasterictics? If so, does "to the extent that" mean "as far as", rather than "as long as"?

Successful negotiation depends on being able to predict the actions of the other party. In an interenational context, to the extent that our judgements arise from ideas about national characteristics, we are liley to make the wrong predictions and respond inappropriately. Cultural stereotyping by country is just bad business. (Research: the biggest culture gaps are within countries, not between them)
