Will it be normal to say "I have applied the ointment on your wounds several times to thwart the effect of poison"?

It's normal in the context of the fantasy literature you are writing, Marina. Probably to would be a better preposition than on.

I think it sounds fine, though the style is somewhat Dickensian.
