Toefl grammer test

The adult bee flies feeds on flower nectar, but the larvae are parasitic on other insects.

This question is rather confusing for me. According to its answer, A is correct. This means FLIES should be changed by FLY. I thought bee is a single noun, so its verb must be attached with ES. Please let me know why this happen. Thanks in advance

In this section of the test of Toefl, each sentence has four underlined words or phrases. The four underlined parts of the sentence are marked A, B, C, and D. We have to identify the one underlined word or phrase that must be changed in order for the sentence to be correct. Thanks.
