I have a grammar question:

Tom ______ (give) a present to Sally for her next birthday.

I wonder if either present tense or future tense can be used in this case since the time of this action is not provided.

use "gives": Tom gives the present now.

use "will give": Maybe Tom will give it to Sally tomorrow.

Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

The logical answer is "will give". There is a time clue in "for her next birthday".
It would be possible to use "gives" but only as the caption of a picture of Tom handing over a present to Sally. It would be odd, however, for someone to hand over a present in advance of a birthday. Usually, we give people presents on their actual birthday.
