In today's financial times newspaper frontpage, I see a title "Trump's no holds barred media slam".

Is there a pun in the title? What is the idiom behind it?

Thanks!

There is no pun. However, both "no holds barred" and "slam" come from wrestling.

Given that the video in question comes from the world of professional "wrestling", the headline is certainly a play on words.

Video? I don't see anything about a video in post 1.

He's slamming CNN (attacking, or, in wrestling, throwing his opponent to the floor). If no holds are barred, then there are no restrictions on what you can do to an opponent, so he's attacking CNN in a way that ignores the normal rules of criticism. The idioms come from wrestling and are being re-applied to his video, which comes from wrestling.

I would hyphenate it as follows:

Trump's no-holds-barred media slam
