"...two lines of source code to its client." :?:

Source code come in arrays, which are sometimes called lines.

hello casiopea,

the source code referred to is a collection of files with thousands of lines of algorithms in each file, so 'lines' would not be appropriate.

I also sometimes wonder whether source code has a plural form (i.e. source codes)

please enlighten, thanks :)

Maybe this could help to avoid any confusion:

"On two occasions, his company accidentally leaked source code to its client."

:?: :)

Oh  Hehe. :D Lines definitely wouldn't be correct. :D

I dunno how bright I can shine on this one. :(

'files' appears to be the obvious choice. Mind you, I've heard of the term modules in reference to files within the source code file.

Here's something I found on Whatis.com:

Source code refers to a version of a computer program that is compiled before it is ready to run in a computer. The source code consists of the programming statements that are created by a programmer with a text editor and then saved in a file. For example, a programmer using the language types in a desired sequence of C language statements using a text editor and then saves them as a named file. This file is said to contain the source code. It is now ready to be compiled with a C compiler and the resulting output, the compiled file, is often referred to as object code. The object code file contains a sequence of instructions that the processor can understand but that is difficult for a human to read or modify. For this reason and because even debugged programs often need some later enhancement, the source code is the most permanent form of the program. (Whatis.com)

As for whether the term source code is singular or plural, I believe it's plural. Programming statments are written in code. These codes form a main Source Code. Once compiled the Source Code becomes the Object Code.

All the best,

Cas

thanks shane, but your modification would change the meaning of the sentence completely haha  'giving two things' is very different from 'giving the same thing on two occasions' :D

thanks casio, so it's one file of source code, two files of source code? it sounds a bit strange, but then again, english isn't my strong suit :D

thank you all for your attention !

Having looked at it again just now, I can see that I screwed up rather royally. The egg is on my face now!

By the by, MicroSoft has a help desk, online. I don't have the address at hand at the mo', but if you type in MicroSoft in your search engine, you'll come across their help desk. They've answered some pretty strange and off topic questions for me in the past, so I believe they'll probably help you out with 'source code'. If so, lemme know, ok?

All the best,

Cas
