Usage of Conjunction "so that and so as to" in adverbial clauses

Please explain the difference of conjunctions "so that" and "so as to"

It depends whether you want to use a clause or a verb:
so that + clause
I arrived early so that I could have a word with him in private.
so as to + verb
We spoke quietly so as not to disturb them.
