[Vocabulary] Usage of phrasal verbs

Hi! Could you please explain me the difference between phrasal verbs:

go down with (in the meaning "to be accepted)
and
go over (in the meaning "to be received)

For example, can I say:

His speech didn't go over too well with the elderly audience.

Or

His story about the notorious wag with its' gallows humor didn't go down well with the audience.

They are both fine, though you should remove the apostrophe after its.
