I need help do I use like or as in the following?

1. I enjoy sports ____football.
2. Do you have classes on Saturday......we do here at our school?
3. If everything goes.......I hope, I will be home by the end of the week.
4. If I were ....you, I would be more careful of my possessions.

Is there a rule to follow when using like or as?

Thanks

1. I enjoy sports ____football. LIKE = an example (you could also say SUCH AS)
2. Do you have classes on Saturday......we do here at our school? AS = the same way we do
3. If everything goes.......I hope, I will be home by the end of the week. AS = the way I hope
4. If I were ....you, I would be more careful of my possessions. NOTHING is required here, IMO.

1. I enjoy sports like football. (Meaning: I enjoy sports similar to football.)

2. Do you have classes on Saturday, as we do here at our school? (Meaning: do you have classes on Saturday, the same as we do here at our school?)

3. If everything goes as I hope, I will be home by the end of the week. (Meaning: if everything goes the way I hope it will I will be home by the end of the week.)

4. If I were like you, I would be more careful of my possessions. (Meaning: if I were similar to you I would be more careful of of my possessions.)

In the second sentence, like is often used to mean the same thing. The fourth sentence would usually be spoken or written without like.

There probably is a rule, but I'll let Cas or Tdol get that one.
