Using of " THE "............

I am a bit puzzled about using of the word "THE" in a sentence.
Please explain.

The uses of the word are complicated. The basic idea behind the word is that you can identify the specific example\s of the noun from the context. One usage of the is to indicate specificity.

Examples: Ron's sinuses have been acting up lately. This is the third day they have been like this.

Honshu is the main island of Japan.

That is the right way to do it.

Is that the right answer?

There was this phrase i saw in a novel..
"The actual work is done by Operations Division."
What I thought was why it shouldn't be;
"The actual work is done by the Operations Division."?

Good question! Normally, that is the way it would be.

In British English, it would be normal to use the definite article there, although some fashionable companies are trying to buck the trend.
