Using there is and there are!

Hello!
I am writing the description of my dream house and I am in doubt whether the sentece is correct or I should use there in front of would. The sentence is:"After entering my flat would be a small hall."

It doesn't work for me. How about something like The first room you'd see on entering my flat would be a small hall.
