"Some gardeners might spurn a plant that usurps and overgrows their garden."

Because I am not familiar with the verbs used in the sentence, the sentence does not make much sense to me.

Overgrow their garden=Cover their garden

Spurn a plant=?

Usurps their garden=?

Thank you.

Overgrow means "get too big for the available space".

Spurn means "reject".

Usurps means "takes over without permission".
