Dear native speakers,

Has the word "vicarious" been used correctly in the following sentence? And what is the menaing of underlined part?

"My second apartment was a vicarious nightmare--the filth was hard on the eyes and nose. The place even assaulted on ears, as the walls were as thins as cardboard."

Thanks

No, "vicarious" is not used correctly. "the filth was hard on the eyes and nose" means it was unpleasant to look at and it smelled bad.
