I'm familiar with vicious circle (670,000 hits) and virtuous cirlces (104, 000 hits).

Surprisingly:
vicious cycle (496,000 hits)
virtuous cycle (59,200 hits)

I learn something everyday.

It's a new one to me, too. I'd use 'circle' instead of 'cycle'. ;-)

Vicious cycle is a term which is quite familiar to me. (Is it an AE/BE thing?) One thing causes another thing, which causes another thing, and eventually you're back to where you started from. Then the whole process repeats itself.

That's it, but I'd use 'circle'. In fact, I've even seen it tested in an exam here. ;-)

Allow me to disagree with myself. Tdol, you are right. It's vicious circle. It has hit me like a ton of bricks that that idiot (me) got it wrong.
