Which of the above sentences mean:
A) The chess champion was finally defeated. He was defeated by a child.
I think '1' doesn't have the desired meaning. It means he had never been beaten by a child. The idea is that he was never beaten, and he was beaten by a child. I think '2' work, but in it 'by a child' is an afterthought.
