Do we ask someone not be friends someone anymore? For example "John's father to John: Stay away from Joann. She is not a good girl. You need not be friends with her anymore.

Do we ask someone TO STOP BEING FRIENDS WITH SOMEBODY? For example, John's father to John: "Stay away from Joann. She is not a good girl. You SHOULD STOP BEING FRIENDS WITH HER.

Note the suggestions.

You need not be friends with her anymore.
He could say You need to not be friends with her, though that's not the most likely way to express the idea. The sentence without the preposition means "It's not longer necessary for you to be friends with her," which is quite a different statement. ("Need not" is another way to say "don't need to". It's old fashioned in American English.)

This is a nuance which you shouldn't try to reproduce. Just remember that the verb you want is need to.

The more likely spelling of her name is Joanne. It could be Joanna too.
