"The decision, though, is up to us. We can keep going down the same road. Or we can make a left turn and go the right way, following the directions that lead us closer to God. Even if we make a mistake, we can still make a U-turn and get back on the proper course."

In the metaphorical sense, does the underlined part mean "To Get Back On the Right Track with Your Life?"

Thank you,

A U-turn is when you turn completes around (180 degrees) in one turn. You are heading north and you make a U-turn to head south. So if you are "on the wrong track" and you make a U-turn, it puts you back in the right direction. I can be metaphorical or quite literal.

To pursue the metaphor to the end of its rope, it does't exactly put you back in the right direction. It puts you back in the direction of the crossroads where you took a wrong turn; then you can choose the right path.

See, I can be metaphorical too.;-)
