what does "culpable homicide" mean exactly.

It's not murder (normally because the person did not intend to kill) , but the person is responsible for the unlawful death. In English law we call it 'manslaughter'. ;-)

I agree with Tdol. One can also say " involuntary manslaughter." :wink:
