I am trying to translate a text that is hard for me and there is an expression I could not understand can you please explain it?

"This is no clever stab at metaphor..."

whole sentence do not seem to be meaningful but especially I have difficulty with stab at metaphor.

I'm not a teacher, but in this context the word "stab" is being used as a synonym of "attempt". So, "this is no clever attempt at metaphor", in other words, the writer of the passage being discussed is not trying to make a clever metaphor.
