1.The productivity of an employee hits the bottom, when he/she is made to work not only on Saturdays but also on Good Friday:(
2.The productivity of an employee hits the bottom, when they are made to work not only on Saturdays but also on Good Friday:(

To me both fine. You ar asking here about the use of the pronoun 'they' as a way to solve the problem of repeating the gender ones (he/she).

To me I find it ok. I notice that many English speakers use 'they' in place of 's/he'. Of course grammar books would go for 'he/she' but things change!

Hope a native speaker ellaborates on this.
