I'm reading a book and don't understand what the author meant by "national platform" in the paragraph shown below, can someone please help me to explain it? Thanks so much!
Does it meant "forum" or just "a raised level surface" which I don't see to make sense in the sentence.
"But Perot of course, was utterly different. His money bought him airtime and a national platform from which to run for the presidency of the United States, without any support from a political party apparatus."
