Hi everyone, which of the below ones is correct when we ask about someone's name/nickname?

#1 What should I call you?
#2 How should I call you?

And here comes another... ;-)

Do we say "Nice to meet you." only when we meet someone for the first time or can we also use it when we havent seen someone for ages and now we are meeting him again?

Thank you for your kind clarification. I appreciate it.

Usually one will say "What is your name?", but either of your options is fine.

"Nice to see you again" would be what to say to someone you have not seen for a time.

Thank you for the prompt reaction.

The first part of my question refers to a situation when I know more names or its derivates or nicknames of the person and I am not sure which one they prefer. In such a case, does "What should I call you" sound clumsy, unnatural?

As to the second part of the question, do you use "Nice to meet you." only for meeting someone for the first time? How about "Nice to meet you again?" Is it the same? Shall I use "Nice to see you again." instead?

Thank you loads for refining my understanding, Angelika

With reference to the first, a better way of asking that is "What do you like to be called?"

With reference to the second, yes, you could say "Nice to meet you again". It's perfect for the situation.
