what the crux over "keep doing something"?

Dear Mr Answer:
please look at "keep somebody posted".
I know that's right in English, but people usually use "keep sb doing sth" such as "keep going", I think "keep sb posting " is right, it should be "keep + ing forms". am i right?
by the way, if you could , please give some info over "keep sb posted" ,when how do i use this kind of structure of " keep sb ed-ended verbs". thanks.

Hi,shinji!

If I were going on vacation, I might tell my secretary to "Please keep me posted while I am away from the office."

When we 'keep somebody posted' we stay in communication with them; use of telephone, e-mail, messenger, etc.

thanks ,but I think people usually use "keep" followed by ing-form, but this time, it is "keep sb verb+ed", is there any reference about "keep verb+ed" , i want to know how and when I should use the structure of "keep verb+ed"? am i right? please help me~
