Hi,

In an episode (from 'My Family') two boys are keen on the same girl at a party. They obviously try to make each other look stupid and make the girl show less interest by saying the other one's a gay or things like that. Is there any phrasal verb, or simple verb, we can use for what they're doing? (That is, to deliberately 'make a person feel embarrassed'.)

Thanks.

Humiliate? Embarrass?

Thanks. Yes, I think they'll do. But, since we have some similar informal terms such as 'show somebody up', though with a different meaning, I thought there might be a more informal verb or phrasal verb too. Thanks dear emsr2d2. :)

Consider bad-mouth, and the 'English synonyms' listed on that link.
