I know we often ask ''How was your holiday?".
But can we ask "What was your holiday like?"

You can ask both, but if you say "How was your holiday?", you're likely to just get "Good, thanks" as a reply.

If you say "What was your holiday like?" then you might get a much more detailed reply, "It was great thanks. The weather was lovely, the hotel was luxurious and I didn't want to come home."
