What's the difference between have and possess?

Can I say:"What's the difference between the verbs have and possess? "

'Possess' isn't used much. It sounds strange to say 'he possesses a car'. It is used in expressions like 'What possessed you to do that?', where it takes its meaning from the idea of devils 'possessing' human bei9ngs and controlling their behaviour. :shock:
