Connectives used to show contrast
In spite of, Despite + noun / pronoun / gerund.

Despite the high price I bought the dress.
She didn't pass the exam in spite of studying hard.
Mary objected to the plans, but they went ahead in spite of her.

Although, Though, Even though, In spite of the fact that + subject + verb.
Although he didn't feel well, he went to work.
Though the weather was cold, he didn't take a coat.
Even though Andrew was warned of the risks, he decided to travel alone to South America.
In spite of the fact that he had multiple sclerosis, he ran the marathon.

However, Nevertheless, In spite of that, Even so + subject + verb.

The city has a 50 kph limit. However, people are often caught speeding.
We arrived late at the hotel. Nevertheless, they had kept our rooms for us.
I adviced him to stay at home. In spite of that, he went to play a tennis match.
The bus was delayed for half an hour. Even so, we go there on time.
