Dear All,

What's the meaning of "say" here in the sentence?

Would you lend me some money, say, five thousand dollars.

Does "say" here mean "let us say"----for example or else?

Hi Cicily,

say is an adverb in that context. It means, approximately or for instance. It doesn't mean, Let's say. That's a supposition.
