Bahrain is one of the Gulf States, isn't it? Is it near Saudi Arabia. Please tell us more about your country.

Formula 1 cars are the Indy cars, right? When is that event going to be held?

Welcome to our forum!

:hi:

Hi, Ibnalshaikh, and welcome. Living in Britain, the picture we have is shaped by the press, which tends to be rather insular and self-obssessed here. Therefore, the smaller states like Bahrain tend to get less coverage, while the larger ones like Saudi Arabia do get a lot more.

However, Bahrain has featured in the press here, because of the elections, where women could both stand and vote. I would say that Bahrain, in the eyes of the British newspaper reader, would, therefore, be considered a more modernising and go ahead state, in contrast to its conservative neighbours. ;-)

PS- Many would also know that it is an island.

The one thing that impresses me is that Bahrain has elections. Apparently, it is a more liberal society than most of its neighbors. (I think Qatar is going in that direction too.) It's interesting that women have the vote there. By "stand and vote" do you mean that they can run for office as well as vote?

:)

My ignorance of Bahrain is profound. Perhaps you could educate me? Tell me a little about the educational system perhaps?

It must be quite a progressive little country--quite unliike Saudi Arabia, for example.

Bahrain is an island country. It is hot and dry.
The standard of living there is quite high.

:)

(Say: "What is your impression of my country?")
