I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct. Is it correct to use "to get him through" in my sentence?

When Bernie came out of prison, he learnt one bad and one good news. The first one was he lost his job, and the second one was that someone paid off his debts and put on his bank account enough money to get him through the coming months.

News is not a countable noun.

We put money in or into a bank account.

Would this version be OK?

When Bernie came out of prison, he learnt bad and good news. The first was he lost his job, and the second was that someone paid off his debts and put enough money into his bank account to get him through the coming months.

It's getting better. :) The second sentence needs the past perfect in both parts.

Let me try the third time.

When Bernie came out of prison, he learnt bad and good news. The first was he had lost his job, and the second was that someone had paid off his debts and had put enough money into his bank account to get him through the coming months.

They're OK now. I'd include that after "the first was".

When I was taking flight instruction, I remember being told that the instructor's job was to keep the student in a light sweat at all times. I'm trying to apply that rule here.

GoesStation,

You're doing a great job, and I agree with you regarding keeping the student busy. You are making my brain work hard, but I know if you want to learn something properly, you have to sweat blood.

I'd use "got bad and good news". BrE doesn't tend to use "learn news".

Consider also "heard some good and some bad news."

teecher,

I am just wondering if I use "some good and some bad news, can I also use the article "the"?

Bernie came out of prison, he heard some good and some bad news. The bad was that he had lost his job, and the good was that someone had paid off his debts and had put enough money into his bank account to get him through the coming months.

The second sentence works well. The first one now contains a comma splice.

Say "... and the good news was, etc."

I have forgotten "When."
It should be:

When Bernie came out of prison, he heard some good and some bad news.
