I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct.

When her father died, Maria moved to her sister, a wealthy woman who lived in a mansion-like house and bred horses on her estate.

She would move to her sister's house, a mansion.

GoesStation,
I am wondering if I could omit "house" and write like this:

When her father died, Maria moved to her sister's, a wealthy woman who lived in a mansion-like house and bred horses on her estate.

You could, but not like that. Your phrase "a wealthy woman..." is attempting to modify "sister," but is actually modifying "sister's (house)."

Try "...Maria moved to her sister's. She was a wealthy woman..."

... Maria went to live with her sister, a wealthy woman...

(Realize that we are talking about Maria's sister here. Was the father not the sister's father too? After their father died, Maria moved to live with her sister, ...)

You can say "moved in with her sister".
