This is a sentence i cite from Independent. I am looking for the subject but i am having difficulty. I need expert's help.

Here is the statement:
"This is because coral islands respond to changes in weather patterns and climate, with coral debris eroded from encircling reefs pushed up on to the islands' coasts by wind and waves."

I think that Coral islands is subject, but i can not convence myself.

thank you for your explanion.

I want to add 3 questions.

Is "in weather patterns and climate" an adverb phrase to the verb "respond to"?
Is "with coral debris eroded from encircling reefs pushed up on to the islands' coasts by wind and waves" an adjective phrase to the subject?

There is a comma seperate "with coral debris eroded from encircling reefs pushed up on to the islands' coasts by wind and waves" and why?

Hello, Sayla.

(1) If I were asked to analyze a sentence such as:

This is because coral islands respond to changes.

I would say that the "subject" is "this."

I feel that your sentence means something like:

This situation exists because coral islands respond to changes.

***** Thank you.:)
