Where can I put "instead" in the following sentence: "Why would I go there, when [instead] I can go to..." Is that correct? If so, could "instead" be placed in other parts of that clause, for instance, after "I can"?

Welcome to the forum, Panamana.

'Why would I go to Norway when I could/can go to Sweden instead?' sounds better.

(No offence to people from Norway.;-))

Panamana's original sentence works, though.
