Do you like Chinese language? If you like, you can choose Chinese. Although it's hard, it's also very interesting in learning Chinese.

I learnt Japanese when I was a freshman on campus. I am very regretful now because I didn't stick to it. But I think it's pleasant to listen to someone speaking Japanese. :)

If you keep on practicing and watch many Japanese TV plays, you will be the one.

Say something, tdol.
Can you recongnize and write their characters?

Remember I said that foreigner sounds like robots when they speak Chinese, well, 9 out of 10 do. I'm wondering if you would be a robot when you speak Japanese. I'll start learning Japanese pronunciation next month.

Joe, learning Chinese seems to be a castle in the air for most foreigners. Don't you think?

But if they work hard, they can learn very well--like we learning English.
I think when I speak English, maybe some native speakers will say " Listen! A Chinese robot" :)
I remember when I first learnt Japanese, I was very excited. But after 2- week learning, I found it was so boring that I couldn't stick anymore. If I had kept on learning like my friend, maybe I could speak fluent Japanese now. So this time, I'm struggling with my English and I will never give up.

Speaking of robot, you remind me of something interesting. I recollect that when I was a kid, my Lesson One is something about greetings.

Mary: How are you?
Susan: Fine, thank you. And you?

Teachers here have been teaching this 'formula' for hundreds of years. Now when I get the chance to ask students 'how are you', I find they can easily generate sentence like 'Fine, thank you. And you?' automatically without any second thought. It seems like you will never hear answers other than that.

Hm learning English is killing me though. I hope I get off to a good start in Japanese.

I probably sound like a robot with speech difficulties and am only bothering with speaking at the moment. I haven't even though about writing.;-)

Hi,

There's an old saying in China - maybe you have heard it before - It is most difficult to be at the beginning of everything. (I don't know whether the translation is right or not). So don't be afraid at the beginning of your learning. It's the toughest period when you start to learn the basic things in Chinese.

By the way, do you have skype? Maybe we can chat on it one day!;-)

Cheers,

Joe
