Why did you get laid out?

Interviewer: Why did you get laid out in 2002?
Interviewee: I was made redundant due to the impact of 9-11.(9-11 event was in 2001). Some of the major custmers of my ex-employer were American companies.

I wonder if the above sentences are grammatically correct or natural?

Dead bodies get laid out. You mean 'laid off'.

Fix the typo on 'customers' and it's fine.
