I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct.

Winter was coming to its end, and patches of frozen ground were creeping out from beneath the snow.

Yes, it's grammatical, but I would say:

Winter was coming to an end, and patches of (still) frozen ground were starting to appear from beneath the snow.
