Don't you think that the writer missed the word "of" in the sentence below?

"..., and it must require skill and present an achievable challenge, with the goal being success."

Note: This context is located above the phrase "as though" in the attachment image.

Shouldn't it be "with the goal of being success"?

No, it's correct as it is. However, "with the goal of being successful".

RobertJ: This is an incomplete sentence. Please complete the thought so we know what you are saying.

Your suggestion is not wrong.

I think that the way it is written the use of "of" is implied here. It is much like we leave the word "that" out of a sentence but it is implied.

For example: The accident (that) I saw looked scary to me.

So your example

"..., and it must require skill and present an achievable challenge, with the goal (of) being successful."

I feel this original sentence is a bit awkward as it is written. the addition of the word "of" removes the awkwardness and the sentence flows better.

However, a pause before "being successful" would give some emphasis to the that phrase. I think they are called "em dashes"

"..., and it must require skill and present an achievable challenge, with the goal - being successful."

I think that works as well in this instance.

"Shouldn't it be "with the goal of being successful"?"

Uhhhhh, I think I said that way back in post #2. Go figure!

hahaha... You added a question mark but "However, with the goal of being successful" does not sound like a complete thought to me. You seem to be commenting on Ambitious-girl's suggestion of a change to the wording, but forgot to finish the sentence.

I noticed that in the context it was written "success" not "successful".

"..., and it must require skill and present an achievable challenge, with the goal being success."

That is why in my original post I wrote "success" not "successful".
So, do you think it is wrong? If writer made that mistake, it might be possible he/she missed the word "of".

If the word was "success", adding "of' before "being" would be wrong.

If the word was "successful" then "of" is optional.
