Could you please explain usage of the word comprise. please give me various examples.

what if I say, tree comprises leaves and branches?

To comprise = be made up of; consist of

You could say A tree is comprised of trunk, branches and leaves, but more usually you will use it in a sentence like: The class is comprised mainly of Italian and French students OR The men you see comprise his entire army
