Hi there,

My question is about the past tense.
In the sentence "Every time he'd see me, he'd call me Little Dude.", they use would instead of the usual past, which would be "Every time he saw me, he called me Little Dude.", right?
Do these two sentences have the same meaning or is there any difference in between them and why do they use would?

Thx

Hi there.

The only real difference is that the use of "would" insists more on the fact that this was a habitual past action, that no longer happens. You could also use "used to" in this case, which would convey the same meaning.
Hope that answers your question =)
