Q1: Why did the father suggested planting the watermelon seeds under a huge oak tree?

A: This was because he could sit with his back against the tree, reading comic books as the watermelons (grow or grew???)

With the word "grow", should it be in past tense form or keep it as present?

Q2: They asked her not to write (in or on???) books.

Thanks soooooo much for helping again, teachers! ^o^

1- grew
2- it could be either- 'on' would mean the cover and 'in' on the pages inside.

Careful with your question!!

If you use the auxiliary verb in past tense, you shouldn't put the main verb in past. You should say:

Q1: Why did the father suggeste planting the watermelon seeds under a huge oak tree?
